Sustainable development cassava Vietnam

Cassava VN Association has coordinated with the provincial People's Committee organized the international conference "Sustainable development of cassava VN". Accordingly, cassava has long been known as an important food crop.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Lang, president of the Association of cassava are cassava VN is one of the crops with higher exports in the agricultural sector, ranking 4th after coffee, rice and cashew. With natural conditions and climate suitable for the growth and development, cassava is grown mainly on sandy, rocky soil, soil, land slope. "Cassava is characterized by easy to grow, little cocoon earth, easy to harvest, process, high returns and low costs," Dr Lang analysis.
Compared with previous years, the VN cassava productivity has improved (average of over 17.6 tons / ha). Cassava is grown especially in the North Central Province and the Central Coast but was still the highest yield in the Southeast region.
Regarding the processing and marketing of cassava, according to data from the Association of cassava VN, there are 100 factories producing starch on an industrial scale, which has 7 plants from oil processing cassava alcohol. Compared with five years ago, this figure doubled in number plants and 3 times the capacity. The consumer market for cassava and cassava starch are mainly exported to China (over 85% of total exports), the rest are in other markets, such as Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia ...
At the conference, the report of the provincial People's Committee said that the area of cassava in the province is now more than 50,000 hectares (2nd in the country in terms of area, after Gia Lai), but leads the nation in production quality and productivity. The province of Tay Ninh has 72 cassava processing facilities. In 2014, exports of cassava starch in the province increased by 3.4 times compared to 2010.
Orientation VN cassava industry development in the future, Dr. Nguyen Van Lang said that first of all need a stable planning material zones (600,000 ha), not to expand cassava area excessively. Next is to make a good material with new varieties combining intensive measures accordingly, ensuring the productivity of 30 tonnes / ha. Besides, investors should focus on deep processing technology after starch for ethanol production, reduce and eventually not export cassava (manioc crude) market.
"The government should have appropriate mechanisms and policies in finance, science, technology, extension and branding reasonably cassava industry, bringing cassava to become one of the main crops for agricultural exports Industry VN ', Dr. Lang stressed.
